SMS Integrates Financial Literacy in the Curriculum
27 February 2016

Financial literacy is one of the main program thrusts of PTC-CSJ Foundation.

Since 2012, the Foundation has partnered with Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI) in conducting annual financial literacy seminars for high schools students of Sisters of Mary Schools (SMS)’s two campuses in Silang, Cavite.

Given the students’ positive response to the seminars and to ensure sustainability of the intervention, SMS has recognized the need to formally integrate financial education concepts in the school curriculum.

In response, PTC-CSJ and SEDPI have agreed to help improve the financial literacy skills of SMS students and teachers, as well as develop the capacities of teachers to deliver financial education modules.

In particular, all SMS teachers took SEDPI’s online course on financial literacy in the last quarter of 2015 and completed a face-to-face training in February 2016 to further familiarize themselves with financial education concepts and tools.

At the end of the training, all teachers, grouped by department, came up with action plans on how to incorporate financial education concepts in their respective subjects.

SMS expects to roll out the new curricula integrating financial education concepts by June 2016.
