Reading Camp Successfully Implemented for the Second Year

PTC-CSJ Foundation, in partnership with Synergeia Foundation, successfully implemented the Reading Camp for the second year in PTC-CSJ’s four partner-Schools in Muntinlupa: Bayanan Elementary School-Main (BESM), Lakeview Elementary School (LES), Sucat Elementary School-Main (SESM) and Muntinlupa Elementary School (MES).

Implemented for 15 days during summer vacation from April to May 2017, the Reading Camp is a two-pronged initiative – remedial reading and feeding – that benefitted 462 slow and non-readers from Kinder to Grade 3 of the four Schools.

To measure improvements, Reading Camp participants’ pre- and post-test scores were taken and results showed an average increase from 36% to 83%, demonstrating the pupils’ mastery across seven literacy skills.

Further, the results also showed that Lakeview Integrated School (LIS), whose Reading Camp participants had the highest average attendance rate of 93%, also showed the highest average increase in Mean Percentage Score (MPS) from 22% to 88%.
