Reading Camp Successfully Piloted in 3G Partner-Schools
16 June 2016

PTC-CSJ Foundation, in partnership with Synergeia Foundation, successfully completed the pilot implementation of the Reading Camp in PTC-CSJ’s three partner-Schools in Muntinlupa: Bayanan Elementary School-Main (BESM), Lakeview Elementary School (LES) and Sucat Elementary School-Main (SESM).

Implemented for 15 days in April 2016, the Reading Camp is a two-pronged initiative – remedial reading and feeding – that benefitted 280 slow and non-readers from Kinder to Grade 3 of the three Schools.

Prior to the conduct of the Reading Camp, 76 teachers of the three Schools were trained by noted educator, Prof. Shirley Equipado, on how to use and administer the modules for the 15-day program.

To measure improvements, Reading Camp participants’ pre- and post-test scores were taken and results showed an average increase from 66.71 to 89.77, demonstrating the pupils’ mastery across seven literacy skills.

After completing the program, all Reading Camp participants and volunteer teachers each received award-winning Adarna story books from PTC-CSJ.

As an additional notable accomplishment of the program, BESM, one of the three partner-Schools, was awarded by the Department of Education as Best Implementer for Reading Camp 2016 for Muntinlupa City and the National Capital Region (NCR).
