SMS Students Learn Basic Financial Management
05 November 2015

As part of its education and livelihood thrusts, PTC-CSJ Foundation supported the conduct of the annual financial literacy seminar at The Sisters of Mary Schools (SMS)-Philippines’ Adlas (Boystown) and Biga (Girlstown) campuses in Silang, Cavite.

Organized in partnership with the Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI), the financial literacy seminar held on Oct. 23, 2015 was attended by a total of 1,258 Grade 11 students of SMS.

The half-day training enabled the students to learn about four basic financial management concepts and skills: importance of personal finance, budgeting, setting financial goals, and creating a savings plan.

The participants highly appreciated the training.  As one student said, “From the training, I easily understood how important it is to budget as a teenager”.

Given SMS’ vocational technology curriculum, students on their final year undergo on-the-job training (OJT) with companies.   Thus, the financial management concepts they learned would be very useful during their OJT and beyond.

The Sisters of Mary School is “a non-stock, non-profit, non-paying, live-in secondary institution for the marginalized poor of our country”.

The Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI) is a private organization established in 2004 and is composed of young and dynamic social entrepreneurs.  SEDPI works in the areas of microfinance, social entrepreneurship and financial education.
