Bayanan Minors Team Wins 2nd Place in Southern Classic
01 October 2013

Last September, Bayanan’s Minors team (9-10 years old) played in the Southern Classic Tournament and won second place, beating other teams from Smokey Mountain, Southridge, and Ateneo. Coach Gil Encarnado led the team towards the championship.

The Southern Classic is an annual tournament organized by the Junior Baseball Softball Foundation of the Philippines (JBSFP) and the Alabang Baseball and Softball Club (ABSC). The tournament is participated in by various baseball and softball school teams in Metro Manila and Southern Luzon.

The players and especially their parents were extremely happy with the performance of the team. Last year the Bayanan team placed fourth in the same tournament.

The PTC-CSJ Foundation, in partnership with JBSFP, has organized and supported four baseball teams in Bayanan – i.e., three coach pitch (6-8 years old) and one minors (9-10 years old). The teams, comprised of 60 players, practice regularly on Saturdays, and participate in five tournaments every year. Math tutorials using baseball statistics has likewise been integrated during Saturday practice sessions.

Sports development through baseball is part of the Foundation’s Growing Good to Great Kids or 3G Program, now on its third year of implementation at BESM.
