BESM Grades 1-2 Pupils Achieve 100% “Normal” Nutritional Status by end-SY 2013-2014
01 April 2014

Before SY 2013-2014 ended last March, Bayanan Elementary School Main (BESM)’s 154 Grades 1 and 2 pupils who were included in the 3G Program’s nutrition enhancement component had all achieved “normal” nutritional status.

Further, 90% attendance rate was recorded among these pupils for the entire school year, consistent with global and local studies t showing that in-school feeding improves attendance.

At the start of the same SY in June 2013, these pupils, comprising 21% of the total population for both grade levels, were classified as either “wasted” or “severely wasted” in terms of nutritional status, based on their body mass index or BMI.

Through the PTC-CSJ Foundation’s Growing Good to Great Kids or 3G Program, these undernourished pupils were fed a nutritious lunch every school day, supplemented with multi-vitamins donated by United Laboratories.

This is the third year of implementation of the 3G Program in BESM. For incoming SY 2014-2015, the Foundation will continue the 3G Program in BESM, and expand it to another public school in Muntinlupa City – i.e., Lakeview Elementary School.
