3G Program Completes Second School Year in BESM
01 April 2013

The Foundation’s Growing Good to Great Kids or 3G Program completed its second year of implementation in Bayanan Elementary School Main (BESM) in Muntinlupa City.

For SY 2012-2013, the 3G Program’s main component on nutrition enhancement provided 407 Grades 1 and 2 undernourished pupils with a nutritious meal and multi-vitamin supplements every school day. By the end of the SY in March 2013, 60% of the students have improved their nutritional status to “normal” from being either “severely wasted” or “wasted” in June 2012.

For 3G’s sports development (baseball) component, two teams each have been formed for the coach pitch and minors divisions. Thus far, they have competed in four tournaments for the year, with a current standing of third among five competing teams.

Other 3G activities completed in BESM for SY 2012-2013 included the organization of a reading festival and remedial classes for slow readers in Grade 1. On the other hand, teachers underwent training to enhance their love for teaching and on how to teach reading and remedial reading more effectively. Parents of BESM pupils were also given sessions on Positive Discipline by resource persons trained by Save the Children-Philippines.
