PTC-CSJ Supports DepEd’s National Learning Camp 2024
July 25, 2024
The PTC-CSJ Foundation, as part of its commitment to help improve basic education outcomes, supported the Department of Education’s National Learning Camp (NLC) implemented from July 1 – 19, 2024.

The NLC 2024 is part of DepEd’s National Learning Recovery Program “to address the learning crisis and support teachers in the process”. Implemented in all public elementary schools nationwide during the school break, the NLC provides targeted interventions to learners on Reading and Math.

Through its Growing Good to Great Kids or 3G Program, the Foundation integrated its annual Reading Camp in NLC 2024 by feeding lunch to 1,466 Grades 2 and 3 learners in the Foundation’s 12 partner schools in Muntinlupa City.

“We have noticed a very good attendance rate among our NLC learners because they look forward to the free lunch in school. We are always grateful to PTC-CSJ for its continued support to feed our struggling learners”, said Mrs. Jennifer Joson, Principal of Sucat Elementary School – Main. The sentiment was echoed by all 12 schools that benefited from PTC-CSJ’s support.

Studies worldwide have shown that in-school feeding improves classroom attendance. Moreover, with the NLC’s teacher-student ratio of 1:10 or lower, improvements in the students’ learning outcomes are also expected; all schools have been mandated by DepEd to evaluate the NLC at the beginning of SY 2024-2025.

Meanwhile, Ms. Diane Piano, NLC Grade 3 teacher at Cupang Elementary School – Main, happily shared that, “When I administered the post-test to my ten NLC learners today (July 11, on the second week of the NLC), almost all of them got a perfect score in four-digit addition, our lesson yesterday. I got goosebumps because many of them got a score of zero at the pre-test yesterday using the same test tool.” She attributed the positive results to having only ten learners in class, enabling her to do focused, one-on-one teaching.
