Reading Camp 2019 Successfully Completed in Five Muntinlupa Public Schools
June 2019
PTC-CSJ Foundation, in partnership with Synergeia Foundation, successfully completed the annual Reading Camp for the fourth year last April 10 – May 8, 2019 in PTC-CSJ’s five partner-public schools in Muntinlupa: Bayanan Elementary School-Main, Lakeview Integrated School, Sucat Elementary School-Main, Muntinlupa Elementary School and Alabang Elementary School.

Implemented for 15 days during the pupils’ summer vacation, the Reading Camp is a two-pronged approach – remedial reading and feeding – that benefitted 490 slow and non-readers from Kinder to Grade 4 of the five Schools.

Prior to the conduct of this year’s Reading Camp, 100 teachers from the Schools were trained by Synergeia President, Dr. Milwida Guevara, on teaching basic reading.

To measure improvements, Reading Camp participants’ pre- and post-test scores were taken; comparative results showed an average increase from 40% to 84%, demonstrating the pupils’ mastery across seven literacy skills.

At the Closing Program, 122 or 25% of Reading Camp participants who had a perfect attendance were given story books from Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation, Inc., through its President, Ms. Marissa Oca.

The Closing Program per School was attended by all Reading Camp participants, their parents and the teachers whose efforts were rewarded with service credits by DepEd-Muntinlupa.
