The PTC-CSJ Foundation conducted the first virtual pep talk and career orientation for the My Ship My World (MSMW) project on May 28. The session was held for Grade 7 students at the Sisters of Mary Schools (SMS) Adlas Boystown Campus in Silang, Cavite.
The guest speaker for the launch was Mr. Dean Anthony O. Canson, Jr., also known as "Dac," who serves as the Talent Acquisition and Education and Training Officer of Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC), Inc. He shared his personal journey and professional experiences as a Global Maritime Professional (GMP) working onboard bulk carrier vessels for ten years before transitiong to a corporate career at PTC.
The students participated actively during the session, engaging Dac in a Q&A portion. They asked about time management strategies for both students and professionals, the realities of being a GMP during pandemic lockdowns, and the various challenges and rewards of a maritime career.
This session is the first in a series of four pep talks lined up for SMS students throughout June. Upcoming speakers include PTC’s AVP for Crewing Operations, C/E Ronald Macalintal; PHILCAMSAT’s Culinary and Hospitality Head, Eduardo Pelisigas, Jr.; and Capt. Pol Winston G. Haboc, Head of PHILCAMSAT and The MAST.
My Ship My World aims to educate young learners about the shipping industry and inspire them to pursue maritime careers. The project is one of several initiatives supported by IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas to promote environmental awareness and maritime interest among Filipino youth.
