Four maritime scholars of the PTC-CSJ Foundation and TK Foundation attended a specialized orientation to prepare for their upcoming Onboard Training (OBT). The session was organized by PTC’s Education and Training Team, led by C/E Alfredo Haboc, in collaboration with the Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training of Malayan Colleges Laguna (CMET-MCL).

Held on April 20, 2022, at First Maritime Place, the orientation focused on critical STCW provisions regarding OBT requirements for the completion of BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering programs.

The session specifically tackled joint circulars from CHED and MARINA, outlining the responsibilities of both the school and the students regarding monthly performance monitoring. Guidelines for domestic onboard training were also discussed to ensure the cadets are fully compliant with current industry standards.

The scholars in attendance—Cadets Melbert Jim Arreo, Hanna Claire Samiano, Juan Patricio Castillo, and Jonnar Mina—are expected to embark within the second quarter of 2022. Scholar Cadet Justin Caliguia has already commenced his training earlier this month.

In a message to the group, PTC-CSJ Foundation President Mrs. Carla S. Limcaoco commended the scholars for their resilience during the pandemic and encouraged them to keep their hearts open to learning as they face this final academic challenge on the high seas.
