PTC-CSJ Foundation, in partnership with Synergeia Foundation, successfully completed the annual Reading Camp for the fourth year. The program was held from April 10 to May 8, 2019, in five partner-public schools in Muntinlupa: Bayanan Elementary School-Main, Lakeview Integrated School, Sucat Elementary School-Main, Muntinlupa Elementary School, and Alabang Elementary School.

Implemented for 15 days during the pupils’ summer vacation, the Reading Camp utilized a two-pronged approach—remedial reading and feeding—benefitting 490 slow and non-readers from Kinder to Grade 4 across the five schools.

Nutritional feeding component

The feeding component ensures students are nourished for optimal learning performance.

Prior to the camp, 100 teachers received training from Synergeia President Dr. Milwida Guevara on basic reading instruction. Improvements were significant; comparative pre- and post-test scores showed an average increase from 40% to 84%, demonstrating mastery across seven core literacy skills.

At the Closing Program, 122 participants with perfect attendance received storybooks donated by the Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation, Inc.. The events were attended by students, parents, and teachers, who received service credits from DepEd-Muntinlupa for their dedicated efforts.
