SMS Teachers Financial Literacy Training

Faculty members of Sisters of Mary Schools participate in specialized training to integrate financial concepts into their academic subjects.

Financial literacy remains a primary program thrust of the PTC-CSJ Foundation. Since 2012, the Foundation has partnered with Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI) to conduct annual seminars for high school students at the Sisters of Mary Schools (SMS) campuses in Silang, Cavite.

Following positive student feedback and a desire for long-term sustainability, SMS has recognized the importance of formally embedding financial education concepts directly into the school curriculum. This initiative aims to equip both students and educators with essential life skills for financial independence.

In support of this goal, PTC-CSJ and SEDPI provided comprehensive capacity-building for the SMS faculty. Teachers completed SEDPI’s online financial literacy course in late 2015, followed by intensive face-to-face training sessions in February 2016. These workshops focused on familiarizing teachers with practical financial tools and pedagogical strategies.

By the end of the training, teachers from various departments developed specific action plans to integrate financial education into their respective subjects. Sisters of Mary Schools expects to officially roll out the updated curricula by June 2016, marking a significant step in institutionalizing financial literacy within their academic framework.
