The Foundation’s Growing Good to Great Kids or 3G Program has officially completed its second year of implementation at Bayanan Elementary School Main (BESM) in Muntinlupa City, marking another year of progress in student health and development.
For SY 2012-2013, the program's core nutrition component provided 407 undernourished pupils from Grades 1 and 2 with a nutritious meal and multi-vitamin supplements every school day. By the end of the school year in March 2013, 60% of these students successfully improved their nutritional status to “normal,” having begun the year as either “severely wasted” or “wasted.”
From baseball to remedial reading, the 3G Program provides diverse opportunities for student growth.
The sports development component also saw significant activity, with four baseball teams formed across the coach pitch and minors divisions. These young athletes competed in four tournaments throughout the year, currently holding a respectable third-place standing among five competing teams.
In addition to health and sports, the program facilitated academic and stakeholder enrichment. Activities included an annual reading festival and targeted remedial classes for slow readers. Teachers participated in specialized training to enhance their literacy instruction, while parents received valuable workshops on Positive Discipline, conducted by resource persons trained by Save the Children-Philippines.
